2. How we collect personal information
We may collect personal information directly from you when you place an order, create an account, join a membership, contact us or enter a promotion. We may also collect information automatically when you use our website through cookies and similar technologies, and from Shopify or other service providers that help us operate our store, process payments, manage subscriptions or pre-orders, fulfil orders, prevent fraud, provide analytics or deliver marketing.
3. Why we use personal information
We may use personal information to process and deliver orders; provide customer accounts, memberships, subscriptions, pre-orders and member benefits; process payments and refunds; communicate with you about orders and products; administer competitions and promotions; provide marketing where permitted; improve our website and customer experience; prevent fraud and security threats; maintain accounting, tax and business records; comply with legal obligations; and resolve disputes.

Our online store is hosted by Shopify. We also use service providers to help operate our business, which may include payment processors, shipping and logistics providers, email and communications providers, subscription and pre-order providers, analytics and advertising services, fraud-prevention services, IT providers and professional advisers.
We disclose only information reasonably necessary for those providers to perform their services or where disclosure is otherwise permitted or required by law.

If you subscribe to marketing, we may send you information about products, restocks, releases, promotions and PhD Fishing news.
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
Transactional messages relating to orders, memberships, payments, account security or customer service may still be sent where necessary.
6. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our website and service providers may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to keep the store functioning, remember preferences, understand website use, measure performance, prevent fraud and, where enabled, support advertising or marketing.
You can manage cookies through your browser and, where available, through website privacy or cookie controls. Blocking some cookies may affect the operation of parts of the website.
7. Automated fraud and security checks
Shopify, payment providers and other security services may use automated systems to help detect fraud, suspicious transactions or account misuse.
These tools may contribute to decisions about whether a transaction requires additional review or can proceed. Where appropriate, PhD Fishing may also manually review an order or account.
8. Overseas processing and disclosure
Some of our service providers operate or process data outside Australia. As a result, personal information may be stored or processed in other countries, including countries in which Shopify or our other service providers operate.
Where applicable law requires it, we take reasonable steps in connection with overseas disclosures and rely on the privacy and security arrangements of reputable service providers.
9. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to fulfil orders and memberships, maintain business and tax records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and meet legal obligations.
When personal information is no longer required, we may delete or de-identify it where appropriate and permitted by law.
11. Access, correction and privacy rights
You may request access to personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, or exercise other privacy rights available to you under applicable law.
